1000 SolesOne Thousand Soles is a community shoe drive for homeless teens and children in-need living in Salem, Oregon & surrounding areas. Created in 2012 in partnership with the City of Salem’s Youth Development Section, a classroom of South Salem High School AVID students invited several businesses and schools to host shoe collection bins benefiting their peers experiencing homelessness. Now the project engages schools, churches, businesses, nonprofits, local government and the general public. Not only does the project seek to help teens in-need, but to encourage elementary-aged students to live healthy, active lives through the inspiring power of a new pair of athletic shoes.
